The Sangguniang Bayan of Basco, led by Vice Mayor German A. Caccam, passed Resolution No. 2019 – 14, last April 24, 2019, expressing their support for Challenergy Philippines Inc. (CPI) demonstration project in Basco Batanes.
The demonstration project’s objective are (1) to technically demonstrate the Magnus Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (Magnus VAWT) test unit(s) for future development in areas on the typhoon path in the Philippines; (2) to obtain data, confirm and validate results; and (3) verify the technology for enhancing renewable-hybrid microgrid energy system in off-grid areas.
Having the appropriate average wind speed and proper geographic location, CPI have identified Basco, Batanes as a feasible test site for a demonstration project that would technically validate the effectivity and functionality of the Magnus VAWT design. This test site in Basco has a historical relevance as it is where the Japanese first entered the Philippines during World War II. Coincidentally, it is also where the first demo project of the Magnus VAWT will be installed in the Philippines.
Last March 27, 2019, CPI met with Vice Mayor Caccam and the Sangguniang Bayan to discuss and ask for their support as the company pursue the demonstration project in their municipality. As a result, the Vice Mayor and the committee expressed their full support through the Board Resolution No. 2019 – 14.
