Challenergy, Inc., the developer of the 10kW Magnus vertical axis wind turbine, through its local company, Challenergy Philippines, Inc. (CPI), aims (1) to technically demonstrate its test unit(s) for future development in areas on the typhoon path in the Philippines; (2) to obtain data, confirm and validate results; and (3) verify the technology for enhancing renewable-hybrid microgrid energy system in off-grid areas.
CPI has identified Batanes as a feasible location for the installation of the demonstration project that would achieve the above-mentioned objectives, as it is one of the Philippines’ known typhoon path. Batanes Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BATANELCO), being the electric cooperative in charge of Batanes, have expressed their support to CPI in pursuing this project through a board resolution signed during the special meeting of the board of directors held last March 27, 2019. Signed by GM Victoria Mata and other directors of BATANELCO, they expressed that they support the construction of the Magnus Vertical Axis Wind Turbine demonstration project in their franchise area. During this demonstration period, CPI and BATANELCO will be working closely especially in the operation and maintenance of the turbine.
This initial engagement with BATANELCO shall serve as an opportunity that can lead to other future development and expansion projects in the Batanes franchise area.
